Okay, due to sheer exhaustion, I'm only going to post the prologue and first chapter to this. I've gotten up to part of chapter 4 done, but I do want to split this up to make it easier to read. Read the first bit and enjoy, and the next bit should be up after I get off work tomorrow...er...today, which is around 3 EDT. Enjoy!
Prologue:
The figure in black ran through the woods. He ran at an almost inhuman speed, yet made no sound. No crunch of leaves, no snapping of branches, no footsteps pounding the ground. And, thanks to the night sky, was rendered virtually invisible to the naked eye. Only someone able to see in the dark would be able to distinguish the figure from the trees, assuming they could see things that fast. Someone that could see that fast would probably think the figure was running for his life.
In a sense, he was.
The figure stopped at a small creek. He caught his breath before looking around the creek.
“You’re late,” said a voice, cutting through the silence like a knife cutting through butter.
“Sorry,” the figure said. “Ran into trouble.”
“Thought you could handle trouble,” replied the voice, in an almost mocking voice. “Isn’t that your specialty, to take care of trouble? Then again, against the Rangers, you never were able to take care of them, were you?”
“Shut up,” said the figure. “Isn’t YOUR specialty to do your job?”
“Oh, I do mine,” said the voice. “The question is, can YOU?”
In the dim moonlight, the figure finally spotted the source of the voice. “There you are,” said the figure. The voice came from a—well, the figure really didn’t know what it was, and at the moment, he didn’t particularly care. The figure didn’t know the voice’s real name, only his alias: Nightstalker.
Best he could tell, Nightstalker was a bat, except over his head was a large glass…cap, for lack of a better word. He wore a black cape, which in this darkness, covered the rest of his body. He had large ears and large eyes.
“Were you hiding?” asked the figure.
“Hardly,” said Nightcrawler. “Do you have it?”
The figure nodded. He pulled out a canister. “Here it is, as I promised.”
“Excellent,” said Nightstalker. “Here’s a worthy payment.” He held out several bills and offered them to the figure.
The figure slapped Nightstalker’s hand away, sending the bills to the floor. “You think I’d actually take payment for this? You scum. I’d never take money for aiding the Master.” The figure glared at Nightstalker, which in the moonlight, revealed the scowl on the figure’s face.
It was a female’s face.
Nightstalker sneered. “Finally showing yourself?”
The figure retreated out of the moonlight. “You know right now I look hideous, thanks to the Rangers.”
“Actually, thanks to Zordon,” said Nightstalker. “That energy wave? Zordon’s good energy. Wiped out all evil in this galaxy. All evil in this galaxy either came to be since Zordon’s death, or from another galaxy.
“I see,” said the figure. “Well, in that case, I guess it’s up to me. Make sure the good doctor gets this. The Master must be up to full strength, and soon.”
Chapter 1
Dr. Tommy Olliver looked up from his desk at the clock. “Ten more minutes, guys.” The students’ demeanor immediately changed to nervousness, handwriting increasing at a furious pace. Tommy smiled. He was notorious for hard tests, but he knew the students could handle it.
Before long, the bell rang, signaling the end of class and school for the day. “Okay,” said Tommy, “turn your tests in here. I should have them graded and ready for you to look at tomorrow. Good job, guys.”
The students filed out of the classroom, chatting with each other about various things. Tommy put the papers in his bag, gathered his coat and keys, and walked out of the room into the busy hallway. “Dr. Olliver,” said a voice in the hallway. “Wait just a moment, please.” Tommy turned around to see Principal Randall walking over towards him.
“Principal Randall,” said Tommy. “What can I do for you?”
“Oh, nothing much. Wondered how that test went, that’s all.”
“Well, the tests are right here,” said Tommy, patting the bag at his side. “Should find out tonight how they did.”
“You haven’t forgotten about our bet, now did you?”
“Of course not,” said Tommy. “But, I think I’m gonna win.”
“Oh really?” asked Randall. “Well, we’ll see about that. Don’t forget, Dr. Olliver, should you lose, no, make that, WHEN you lose, you owe me lunch.”
“I haven’t forgotten,” said Tommy. “Well, I’d better take off. See you tomorrow.”
Tommy left Principal Randall as he turned the corner. “Lunch with the principal?” asked a voice from behind Tommy. “Sounds like somebody’s in trouble.”
Tommy turned around and smiled. “Ethan, how you been, man?” Tommy’s former student and team member walked over to him, grinning and gave him a hug. “How are things going?” Tommy asked.
“Oh, they’re going alright. Reefside Tech is still brutal, but I love every minute of it. And what’s this about you and Randall?”
“Oh, it’s nothing,” Tommy said with a shrug. “She and I just made a bet on some tests my last class just took. I think they all passed, and she thinks some failed. If some failed, I owe her lunch.”
“And if they all pass?”
“She gives me a raise.”
“Ah, nice one. Lemme guess, you spent extra time going over the material?”
Tommy chuckled. “Something like that. Hey, since you’re here, you free for a while? I got something to show you back at my place.”
“Sure, I got time,” Ethan said.
They pulled up to Tommy’s house. “Yard looks nice,” Ethan said.
“Thanks. Been working on it for about a year now. Trying to spruce up the place, although I could have lived without the flowers.” Tommy pointed to the flowers along the house.
“You don’t like their smell?”
Tommy chuckled. “Let’s just say I’ve dealt with enough flower monsters to make me think twice about getting flowers in my yard. Anyways, c’mon. I wanna show you what I’ve been working on.”
Tommy unlocked the door and they both walked in. Tommy went over to the model skeleton of the T-Rex and lowered the bottom jaw. The secret door slid open. “C’mon,” Tommy said as he walked down the stairs.
“Whoa,” said Ethan as he descended down the stairs. “You rebuilt it?” Right before the Dino Rangers’ final battle with Mesogog, Zeltrax had torn the lab apart in order to get his hands on the recently reformed Elsa.
“Yeah,” Tommy said. “Took some time, but I was able to get it all rebuilt. Anton Mercer helped me with a lot of it.” The lab was completely rebuilt, down to every minute detail.
Ethan looked around, gazed. “I forgot just how cool this place looked.” Then he stopped, looking a brown door with a strange symbol on it. It looked similar to the Dino Thunder symbol, only more curved and fatter. “What’s that? I don’t remember that.”
“Oh,” said Tommy. “That’s…ah…that’s my vault.
“You have a vault?” asked Ethan. “Seriously?”
“Uh…yeah,” said Tommy.
“What do you need a vault for?”
Tommy looked at him for a minute. “I suppose you have a right to see it.” He walked to the door and took out a card key. He unlocked the door and opened it.
Ethan stared at it. “Whoa,” he said. Inside the vault was all sorts of strange things Ethan had never seen before. “Incredible,” he said. “What is all this stuff?”
“Well,” said Tommy. “This is my Ranger vault.”
“Ranger vault?” Ethan asked.
“Considering all the Ranger history I have, I thought I should have a safe place to put all my Ranger things.” Tommy pulled out a rolled up piece of parchment. “Here, look at this.” He handed it to Ethan.
Ethan took the parchment and unrolled it, revealing a map. “What’s this for?”
“That,” said Tommy, “is a map of Angel Grove, my hometown…and the hometown of the Rangers.”
The map was well detailed. Several landmarks were listed: Zeo Zord Bay, Turbo Zord Bay, Power Chamber, Juice Bar, Angel Grove High School, Angel Grove Lake, Dragonzord.
“What does all this mean?” Ethan asked.
“Well, let’s see,” said Tommy as he took a closer look. “This is where the Power Chamber was,” said Tommy, pointing to the Power Chamber landmark, “and before that, the Command Center. This,” he said pointing to Zeo Zord Bay, “is where the Zeo Zords, Super Zeo Zords, Red Battlezord, and the Warrior Wheel were kept, and where I believe they are still kept.”
“Wait, you have Zeo Zords still active?”
“Functional and operational, yes. Active, no. Not since we got the Turbo powers have those Zords been used. But, they’re still there.” He then pointed to the Turbo Zord Bay. “Now, that was created when we got our Turbo powers. That’s where the Turbo Zords and Rescue Zords were kept, until they were destroyed.” He kept going. “That is the start of the Desert of Despair, where the Ninja Temple is located. That’s where we got our Ninja Power Coins, and where Ninjor and the Ninja and Shogun Zords are being kept, at least, I think they’re still there.”
“What’s this mean?” Ethan asked. “Dragonzord.” He paused. “Wait a minute. Isn’t Dragonzord the Zord used—?”
“By the Green Ranger,” said Tommy slowly. “Yeah, that’s it.”
“Is Dragonzord still working?”
“He’s still functional. Unfortunately, though, not operational. It’s been so long, not to mention the power is lost. If I had the power, I could summon him with this.” He grabbed a dagger from one of the shelves. “This is the Green Ranger Flute Dagger, used to summon and control Dragonzord.”
“Wow,” said Ethan. “Does it still work?”
“It should still play,” Tommy said. He looked thoughtful, and then put the flute to his lips. Air came out.
Ethan snickered. “Nice, Dr. O, real nice.”
“Hey,” said Tommy laughing. “Gimme a break, it’s been some time.” He licked his lips and blew again. Ethan heard the theme for calling Dragonzord. The tune resonated in him.
“Wow,” said Ethan. “That’s incredible…and powerful.”
“Been some time. I haven’t picked this up in years. Guess looking at it reminds me of my last moments as the Green Ranger, when I was at my weakest.”
“You said Dragonzord was functional, right? But you needed the power? Don’t you have some sort of power source that could do the trick?”
Tommy chuckled. “Well, I have this.” He pulled out a morpher. “This is the Green Ranger morpher and power coin.” Ethan noticed the symbol on the power coin was the same symbol as the one on the door. “You may recognize the symbol. It’s on the door, and it was the basis for the Dino Thunder symbol, hence why they look similar.”
“I thought the Power Coins were destroyed.”
“The Ninja Power Coins were destroyed. And, the Dino Power Coins suffered a major energy surge from the Command Center when the Thunder Megazord and the Tiger Megazord were destroyed.” Tommy grabbed another morpher off the shelf. “This was my White Ranger Dino morpher. It suffered a surge, just like all the others. At first we couldn’t even morph with them. They slowly started to regain energy, but the 6 Dino Coins were severely damaged, so morphing with them is not a good idea, as Adam found out once.” He put the White Ranger morpher back. “This coin, however.” Tommy broke off into silence before continuing. “This coin had already lost all power when the power surge happened. As a result, it’s not damaged at all. But, it’s useless without somehow reenergizing the coin.”
“Can you reenergize it?”
“Been trying to. So far, nothing. I hope we can get it soon. Dragonzord HAS to be moved.”
“Moved? Why?”
“Well, where he is right now, no one knows about him, except the other Rangers at the time and Rita and Zedd, but they’re good now, so we don’t need to worry about them. But, if someone goes scuba diving, or a submarine is down there, they could find it and try to use it. And, if they try to control Dragonzord without the dagger, it’ll be big trouble. He’ll go on a rampage and then I’ll have to do something about it. If I could move him, I’d put him in the Zeo Zord Bay.” Tommy put the dagger down. “Here, this is what you really should see.” He pointed to another shelf.
Ethan looked and did a double take and stared. On the shelf were the Dino Gems, all 5 of them. “The Dino Gems? I thought they were destroyed in our last battle.”
“So did I, but I went back there later and found them all. All the power is gone though, so they’re nothing more than rocks. Souvenirs of the past. Like everything else in here.” Tommy sighed and looked at the Dragon Dagger again.
Ethan looked around and noticed something on one of the shelves. “What’re these?” he asked, picking up two strange metal bracelets.
“Oh, those are my Zeonizers, to become Zeo Ranger V. Those were our morphers when we were fighting the Machine Empire.”
“Have they lost their power too?”
“No,” said Tommy slowly. “No, they work still. The Zeo Crystal was never destroyed, so they still work.”
“Have you used them since you stopped being an active Ranger?”
“Once. On the moon, fighting the remnants of the Machine Empire’s general with 9 other Red Rangers. They were trying to resurrect Serpenterra. We stopped them.”
“So, if you wanted to, you could morph with these right now?”
“Yeah,” said Tommy. “But, I really have no reason to. No, I’m afraid my time as an active Ranger is finally past. These are just keepsakes. Although, the Zeonizers did come in handy trying to figure out how to build your morphers.” He put the Zeonizers back. “C’mon, let’s get outta here. You want to get a bite to eat?”
“Sure, sounds good,” said Ethan. They exited the room and locked the door. They headed towards the stairs.
Suddenly, the room got dark. Flashes of light went off all around them. A sound similar to thunder, but not really, went off multiple times. Ethan and Tommy both heard another sound, but thought different things. Ethan thought it sounded like static on a TV. Tommy, however, recognized the sound as someone teleporting. The lights came back up. “What was that?” Ethan asked. Then he turned around. “Whoa. Who’s that?” He was looking at a man in black with a gold cape, holding some sort of staff. He wore black boots and black armbands near his hand, and had a black armband on his left arm, up near his shoulder.
Tommy turned around and stared. His mouth was wide open in disbelief.
“Hello, Tommy,” said the man. “It’s been some time.”
Tommy was virtually speechless. It had been so long. He had no idea how he was able to say the man’s name.
“…Trey?”
