As a suggestion: What about having an updates forum that only admins/mods/g.mods can post in. They can post upcoming updates that are happening on the board which could be skin additions or changes to a section of the board and new board layouts.
Also, I would like to suggest having a thread where people can request certain events to be added to the calendar, but only events that are important and not a waste of time.
